Game is wizlocked. |
|
I woke up this morning to discover that two of our more enterprising players had decided to intentionally crash the mud. We've stated several times, that no matter waht the cause, we consider an intentional crash of the mud to be a severe transgression. The two players in question were attempting to verify a bug. Proper procedure in this case would have been simply to note the immortals with your suspicions regarding the bug and then not actually attempt it. This is another thing that has been stated several times. As such, given that I just woke up and am NOT happy, I have wizlocked the game until I or Eru decide what to do with Pinky and The Brain.

I have decided that it would be unfair to punish everyone for the crimes of the few. Therefore I shall unlock the game, but I will freeze those who were involved until punishment is decided.

I am appalled that two of our most experienced players could have purposefully crashed the game - an action that is at best reckless and at worst downright malicious.
Do you understand the consequences?
The server may not have automatically recovered.
Auction data may have been corrupted - all items and gold could have been lost.
Player data may have been corrupted.
...the list goes on and on.
To summarize:
You intentionally crashed the server by exploiting the well-known 10k-donate-item bug, in CLEAR violation of rule #5. Note: The stated penalty for breaking this rule is SITE BAN.
You risked data corruption, which could have cost other players hundreds of hours of hard work.
You did all this, ostensibly, to demonstrate behavior that has been known for years and isn't really a bug because it can only happen when the server crashes!
It pains me to do this to such high level characters, but it is fitting that you suffer the loss of time and energy that you risked for everyone else.
Gafoop and Goa - you will be vaped.
