The Legend of the Divine and Death Knights |
|
"It has been said that for every good, there is an evil, for every justice, a coruption, for every life, a death. Neither can exist without the other, yet neither can stand the other's existance..."
................................................................ ..................................... ................................................................. ....................................................... ................ ....................................................... .................................. ................................................................ ...................................................... --Tomoyo Anashi
This is the legend of two such forces: The Divine Knight, whom brought judgment and peace with that greatest of all Holy Swords, the Lightbringer, and the Death Knight, whom spread fear and destruction across the lands with the greatest of all Unholy Swords, the Deathbringer.
Part one: The Bringers of Light and Death
Our legend begins with another, the legend of the War of the Heavens.
Back when the world was new, before the races and other forms of life came to be, a war was fought between the Celestials, whom wished the new world to be one of peace and order, and the Devils, whom wished for the new world to be one of chaos and eternal war. The Celestials, their blades shining with holy radiance, fought tirelessly, night and day with the Devils, whoms blades were shouded in unholy auras. As the war went on, and each side took losses, the weapons of the opposing parties rained down onto the earth, creating areas of beauty and desolation as the landed.
Neither side gaining a clear advantage, it seemed as though the war would be endless, so each side sent their greatest generals to be their champions, to duel in order to find the winner. These generals were the strongest of all the Celestials and Devils. The Celestial General held the Lightbringer, the strongest of all the Holy Blades, and prepared to face the Devil General, whom held the Deathbringer, the greatest of all the Unholy Blades. As they fought, the blows were so great the heavens roared and the earth shook from the force created. In the end, each struck a final blow to the other, and, being equal in power, both fell to the other. Just as their fallen comrads, their blades fell to the earth.
The Celestials and Devils, stunned at the fact that both were equal in strenght in every way, and knowing that there would be no victor in this war, decided to let those whom grew and evolved on the new world decide how it was to turn out. To honor the fallen in battle, they erected temples around the Lightbringer and Deathbringer, the Temple of Heaven and the Temple of Hades. The Temple of Heaven was filled with the purest of Holy energies, and stopped all those whom were wicked and evil dead in their tracks. Likewise, the Temple of Hades was filled with the most Vile of Unholy energies, destroying all those whom were kind and good.
As time passed, and the races and other forms of life came to be, Knights began to use the fallen blades. Those knights whom weilded the Holy Blades, or "Knightswords" as they had come to be called, defended peace and justice, and call themselves "Paladins". Those whom weilded the Unholy Blades, or "Darkswords" as they had come to be called, spread fear and destruction across the land, and referred to themselves as "Dark Knights".
However, the Lightbringer and Deathbringer, guided by the spirits of the generals whom had used them, were never to be found, as none had been seen as worthy of wielding them.

Part two: The Birth of the Divine and Death Knights
Many a Knight aspired to be a Paladin, though in many people's eyes, non deserved it more than a young Knight named Breanna. She had become widely known as a Knight whom selflessly and tirelessly helped others, protected the weak, and brought happiness to the people. She was said to be the purest of the Knights, and many people looked foward to the day she would be honored as a Paladin.
However, just as Breanna had become a household name, so too did another. This knight, named Malinda, was vicious and cruel. Filled with bloodlust, she cut down anyone whom she felt like, and did it indescriminately. It didn't matter what one's race, class, or gender was, or even whether or not they were healthy, kind, or noble. She would kill them just to satisfy her craving for blood, then move towards her next victim. She was said to be the most vile of Knights, and many feared the day she gained the power of a Dark Knight.
One day, as Breanna was traveling, she came across the ruins of the Temple of Heaven. Knowing this to be a place reveared by all paladins, she couldn't help but admire its majesty. She walked in and took in the magnificence that was all around her, and made her way to its inner sanctum to honor those whom had come before her.
At the same time, Malinda was chasing her newest prey. They ran in sheer terror, but were ripped to sheds by an unholy force, as they had retreated to ruins of the Temple of Hades. Infuriated at the fact that someone seemed to have stolen her prey from her, she ran into the Temple to hunt them down and destroy them for it. After tearing the ruins apart looking for the person, she eventually made her way to its inner sanctum, intent on killing the thief.
It was then that the Lightbringer and Deathbringer showed themselves.
The Lightbringer, greatest of all Holy Blades, shining in a radiant white light, appeared before Breanna. A mighty, majestic voice sounded throughout the sanctum: "Doth thou wish to protect the people? Doth thou stand for justice and peace? If thy heart's greatest desire is to spread hope across the land, then take thine blade, and bring light to the people."
Likewise, the Deathbringer, greatest of all Unholy Blades, shouded by a dark malevolent aura, appeared before Malinda. A vile, fearsome voise thundered through the sanctum: "Doth thou wish for blood? Doth thou delight in the suffering of those that fall by thy hand? If thy heart's greatest desire is to spread despair across the land, then take thine blade, and bring death to the people."
At the same time, Breanna and Malinda grabbed the blades that shown infront of them, and pillars of white and black light shot forth from the ruins. Through the holy power of the Lightbringer, Breanna was given the armor of the Divine Knight, a brilliant armor that brought hope and peace to all whom saw it. Similarly, through the unholy power of the Deathbringer, Malinda was given the armor of the Death Knight, a fearsom armor that struck terror and despair in the hearts of all whom gazed upon it.
The Divine Knight and Death Knight had been born.
